Introduction
The Australian White Ibis has increased in both range and numbers since European
settlement. Recently, urban populations of
Australian White Ibis have been established and have increased considerably
since the 1970’s. Despite the problems associated with elevated Australian White
Ibis populations in urban areas, few studies have investigated ibis in urban
environments. In this study, diurnal movements, foraging ecology and site
fidelity of Australian White Ibis in urban environments was investigated.
Methods
A total of eleven Australian White Ibis were fitted with a battery powered
radio-transmitter. Each ibis was also fitted with a number stainless steel ABBBS
leg band. The technique used for attaching the radio transmitters to Australian
White Ibis was a backpack harness.
